Macken’s Food Drive Series and Pop-Up Store Launched at Start of Pandemic Has Served More than 5,000 Families in North Miami Beach and Surrounding Area
Macken Companies’ Director of Marketing and Public Relations Jennifer Becker was recognized as an “Unsung Hero” among other local women by Commissioner Daniela Jean during the City of North Miami Beach’s Young Women of Distinction Cohort ceremony held on May 19th.
The Young Women of Distinction program develops and engages female high school seniors that reside in the City of North Miami Beach who are actively involved in leadership and community service. The program connects these “Rising Stars of North Miami Beach” with key female government officials and provides training sessions virtually via zoom for five weeks. Featured speakers included WPLG Anchor Alex Finnie and Jessica Lynn Way, Esq. The ceremony celebrated Brunella Fernandez, Laura Sandoval, Brianna Severe, and Rhobie Toussaint, bright young stars that completed the program.
Macken Companies was a proud sponsor of the event.
“Events like these have such an impact and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to support this program,” stated Jennifer Becker. “The Young Women of Distinction program helped foster a positive identity at a crucial time in these teens’ lives, and I have no doubt they will remember the evening and carry the label “women of distinction” with them as they continue on to college and throughout their careers.”
Commissioner Daniela Jean also recognized Jennifer Becker of Macken Companies for her efforts and successful execution of the firm’s food drive series, launched when the pandemic began in January 2020. Macken Companies transformed the back alley of its retail center in North Miami Beach into a drive-thru food drive. Through partnerships with Jewish Community Services of South Florida, Feeding South Florida, Farm Share and Joshua’s Heart Foundation, Macken Companies has handed out emergency food boxes to more than 5,000 families in North Miami Beach and the surrounding area.
“This was an incredible evening, both inspiring and uplifting, and being recognized was just icing on the cake and a wonderful surprise,” added Becker. “Our firm is dedicated to the City of North Miami Beach community. Our principals were raised here, and we’ve been headquartered in the City of North Miami Beach for over 30 years. We are committed to helping out as much as we can.”
Macken Companies continues to operate its food drive series on a regular basis. Since this reception was held, the firm also opened a free pop-up store inside one of its vacant retail bays for the families of those affected by the Surfside tragedy as well as to residents that had to vacate their homes at Crestview Towers in North Miami Beach due to structural concerns.
